Berlin in the snow

It is my fourth winter in Berlin and finally I get to see the city under a thick layer of snow. No reason to hide under the blankets and only scurry to the Späti downstairs now and then. I went out even by -10° to re-discover the city under a whole new angle and new colours.

Museumsinsel

First stop Museumsinsel. I went there early Saturday morning, to avoid the crowd as is it a very touristic stop in Berlin and wanted to see as much immaculate snow as possible before the first early birds would join me.

Alexanderplatz

The snow stifles all noise and in the glimpse of one night, Berlin transforms itself into a ghost town .The silence is satisfying but also very strange to listen to in such a big place.

Friedrichshain

Sunday morning started with more snow in the Kiez. I went out and braved the -10° and wind. By the time I ended my tour around the area, a good layer of snow had fallen on the ground. The snow from that day would eventually stay there for over a week, temperature staying below zero for over ten days.

Tempelhof

Impossible not to go to Tempelhofer Feld with such weather. It just felt right to go to the place where I probably spent most of my time in Berlin since I moved here.

The field turned into one gigantic wasteland, covered in white and impossible to see the end of it because of the fog.

Our beloved Gail Halvorsen ballpark, field of dreams of the Berlin Skylarks baseball team, looked very elegant in white.
