A sunny mid-September weekend sounded the perfect opportunity to take a little break from work and spend a long weekend at the sea.

Rügen is just a few hours away from Berlin by bus or train and a perfect location to spend a short holiday during the Indian Summer. It is a popular tourist destination for its the diverse landscape and its long, sandy beaches. With me I brought my trustworthy Minolta X700 and my bike as cycling felt like the best way of commuting on the island. Of course I was wrong. The island is very hilly and even if the elevation never raises over 150 m over sea level, I ended climbing 1700 m. The lack of information about the island and a physical preparation where felt during the 160 km I cycled during the 3 days.

I was still able to achieve my goal and trailed the whole North-East part of the Island, from Cap Arkona to Jasmund Natural Park, over to Binz and Sellin. The following photos depict some of the landscapes and sights I was able to see that weekend.

All photos have been taken with my Minolta X700, a AF 28-85mm lens and on Ilford HP5 plus rated at 400 iso.
